The band, cheerleading, color guard, and football senior night all happened on Friday, October 20th, at the football game versus Taylorville. Each senior from the four respected groups got recognized for their leadership, hard work, and determination, as well as what they are going to do out of highschool, or their “CM Next”.
The football walked out first, and then it was the band. To honor the night, all the seniors got to wear their sashes and plumes with their uniforms, and some of the seniors’ plumes were purple. The baskets were delivered to the seniors by two friends of their choice. In the baskets were chocolates, other sweets, and soda, as well as a little cup and a blanket with music staffs on it. Each basket also had a personal note to each of the seniors.
When asked about the band’s performance on senior night, Sydney Law had this to say about it, “We weren’t focusing on how well the performance itself went, we just wanted to have fun with it! It also just had an overall different vibe to it. It was awesome. Sad it was our last, but still awesome.” Sydney, as well as the whole band believes the best part about band isn’t putting on a great show, but it is the friends you meet and will have forever.
Sydney also says band taught her a valuable lesson that she will continue to carry with her even after her highschool band career is over. “[…] one of the biggest things I’ve gotten out of it is to just have fun with life. Even if it’s not too enjoyable at times, it’s best to relax and just try to make the most of it!” With this sentiment being with Sydney and the rest of the seniors, it is for certain that the students from the class of 2024 in band will go on to do great things.
After the band was colorguard, and then the cheerleaders, who were the last to be recognized. One of the seniors on the team, Chloe Maberry, says that in the cheer baskets there were, “[…] a printed photo of us with an outside rim that they all signed and wrote sweet notes to send us off with, a cheer alumni hoodie with our names on with back, with a food of our choice.” The underclassmen also gave each of the seniors heart felts gifts, as well as took photos with them for their send off.
The seniors collectively made up a special floor cheer for them to do at the game, and all of the seniors got to call the cheers as it was the last time they would be calling them together. Chloe said that the thing she is going to miss most are her teammates, and all the love they have for eachother. Chloe added to this by saying, “I had such a strong bond with all my teammates that I’m gonna miss them more than anything.” Not only does Chloe love her teammates, but she also believes she is better with them than without, as she says teamwork is the most important thing she learned over her years of cheering. The bond the cheerleaders have and what they learned together are things that are going to last them a lifetime and will help them succeed in the rest of their lives.
The senior night for the 2024 graduating class was very successful, and it only further proved that the seniors of CM are going to leave this school and accomplish incredible things.
