Girls b-ball ready to roll

Attempting to follow the CM girl’s basketball triumphant season of getting in the state’s “final four” won’t be easy, but the team is up for the challenge.

The new team is more than eager to start the new season. They have already had open gym practice times and real practices. There are a few promising new additions to the team.

A freshman, Marlee Durbin, going out for the team this year, said open gyms and practices consist of working on the basics: “We are doing fundamental drills as of now while focusing on agility.”

The first practice was on Halloween “The first practice showed me the ropes and made me very excited for the upcoming season,” Durbin said.

The coaches are also excited for the season. Assistant coach and freshman coach McKenzie Sutton said she was most excited “… to see the development of all the players since our last season. It’s nice to see all of the girls’ hard work paying off.”

Sutton said her favorite memory of coaching was their run-up to state last year. “My favorite basketball memory has to be our post-season run last year,” she said, “That was such an exciting time and it was so great to see not only how the school supported the team, but the community as well. The gym was packed for every game and the girls definitely felt that energy.”
