The newest face this year at Civic Memorial in the Social Studies department is Mrs. Rinkel! She teaches Civis, American Heroes and Current Events. This is her 6th year of teaching and she loves our school spirit and the camaraderie in our community.
When asked to give a few fun facts about herself, Mrs. Rinkel replied, “I am a boy mom, I am a farmer’s wife and we plant pretty much everything with our specialty being pumpkins! I have over 50 goats.”
“I love to read, especially Rom-Coms, my guilty pleasure is reality tv shows, it’s the drama! The students are my favorite part about teaching, they are our future and having the chance to be a part of what molds students into who they are, is pretty awesome!”
Our next new teacher in the building is Mrs. Marshall, she is the choir director here at CM and at Trimpe Middle School. She’s been teaching for 26 years and she is excited to see growth in the choirs, not only musically, but mentally and emotionally through the powers of music. Mrs. Marshall also is excited to share new genres of music with our community.
I also asked her to give a few fun facts about herself, here’s what Mrs. Marshall had to say. “I love traveling! One of my life goals is to see all 63 National Parks in the US. I have been to 15 so far, with my favorite being Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. I live in a home that was built in 1837 by Swiss settlers, Abraham Lincoln visited and dined with the original owners! The original outhouse is still on the property, and it’s a three seater! During the Civil War, it was used as a donation location to collect items and supplies for injured soldiers.”
“Although I have not done it for a while, I do know how to shoot a recurve bow. I used to compete in traditional archery competitions and was a certified archery instructor for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. I am also an adjunct professor at McKendree University, I teach applied voice to music majors and minors.”
“My favorite part about teaching is watching the “light bulb” moment when students realize they learned something new!”
We hope CM treats you well Mrs. Rinkel and Mrs. Marshall!
