This year the Eagles boys soccer had a successful season starting with a tournament win in Roxana with record setting heat. Commenting on the game, coach Jarman said, “I enjoyed watching the guys have success with a smile on their faces while battling through record setting heat, and bring home a plaque to reward them for their efforts.” The season came to an end in a regional semifinal loss against Mascoutah, finishing 5th in the conference and solidifying their 14-10 record.
Head coach Derek Jarman has been coaching since 2013 and has a lot of experience to show for it. He said his favorite memories are from seeing the players grow, “Growing the program to have enough for a full JV and Varsity is something that makes me proud when I think of all the work our kids have put in over the course of time.” he said. “Winning the only regional championship in CM soccer history was a great moment in my life […] But none of that happens without all of the amazing kids we had to help build our teams and program before them […]”. The program, which did grow because of the kids, wouldn’t be anywhere it is today without the help of coach Jarman as well as all of the other people dedicated to the CM soccer team along the way.
Though Mr. Jarman has been coaching since 2013, he still takes the job as seriously as ever and appreciates it just as much as he always has. When asked about why he started coaching, coach Jarman said, “I love sports – they have helped shape the person that I am through positive habits and lifelong core values that sports can teach us in society.”
Mr. Jarman’s mindset for his team is a great example of pounding the stone, which has gotten CM soccer very far. We are looking forward to another boys and girls season!
