Ask Mrs. Cahalin
Mrs. Cahalin plays a significant role in many clubs and organizations. As far as band goes, she is the director of the Marching Eagles and teaches many other band classes at CM as well as Trimpe. Mrs. C is a huge supporter of the music honors society, Tri-M. This year, she is going to be taking on the role of director for the upcoming spring musical, Legally Blonde. Mrs. Cahalin is dedicated, diligent, and passionate for the career she pursued. Not only is she a teacher, but she is also a role model for many of her students and has even encouraged some to look for an occupation in music moving forward.
Q: How did you feel about this Marching Eagles season?
Thinking back on this season, two words come to mind: pride and fun. This season was full of so many moments that gave me nothing but pride for the Marching Eagles. Not only did we perform well and receive validation with placements and trophies, but we also learned about what it takes to feel good about how we perform. We learned how we rehearse is just as important as how we perform.
This season was just so much fun. The students were positive and hardworking, and the staff was collaborative and encouraging. Everything about this season, from the show, the students, the staff, the rehearsals, the performances, was just a good time. It has been one of my favorite seasons to be a part of and I’m very much looking forward to the next marching season.
Q: What made you want to be the director of this organization?
Band has always been a huge part of my life. It has made such an impact on me and has shaped who I am today. I really can’t define myself without including band and all that it encompasses. I was inspired to teach music by the various band directors I have had throughout my life. To this day, I still think of my high school band director and the influence he had on me. All I want at the end of the day is to share my love of music and the joy of making music with others.
Q: For the upcoming musical, Legally Blonde, what are you most looking forward to?
It may sound silly, but I am most looking forward to the process. We all live for the performances, reminding ourselves when we don’t want to be at rehearsal that it’s for the good of the overall performance. However, it is the little moments that make something like a musical, and a marching season, memorable. I’m looking forward to spending time with dedicated and motivated students, laughing through the silly situations that occur, and creating memories that we will talk about for years to come.
