Greg Wiegand has joined the staff as the new CTE/Agriculture teacher in his 18th year of teaching.

He previously taught agriculture at Gibault Catholic High School and Red Bud. He led the Future Farmers of America program at Gibault and is starting one at CM.

Wiegand earned his bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He says he became a teacher because at college he could “not pass calculus”. He says though that his wife is a math teacher, which fixed his problem. Wiegand is a big Cardinals and Blues fan.

Before coming to CMHS, Wiegand was chosen to study agriculture in Japan for 3 weeks. There he helped to teach an all- girls English class, with the students learning English through singing. He said he was chosen to sing “I Just Called to Say I love You” by Stevie Wonder to the class which is one of his fondest memories from Japan.

Wiegand says that the best part of working at CM is “all of it” and that everyone in the school and community has been very helpful.
