The various honor societies of Civic Memorial High School will have their induction ceremony on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Tri-M, and Spanish National Honor Society will induct new members.

Students must meet minimum GPA requirements and core class requirements to be considered for admission to NHS. To be considered for membership, juniors must have taken twelve credits of 30 listed courses open to students through the junior year and must have achieved a grade point average of 3.70. Leadership and community involvement are also factors. Megan Henrichs is the faculty sponsor.

Seniors Jocelyn Combes is president of NHS, and Dathan Greene is vice president. Other officers include the following: Ellah Brown, secretary, Olivia Goodman, treasurer, Emma Smith, historian, and Emma Niemeier, public relations officer.

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Honors Society) is having inductions along with the rest of the NHS societies here at CM. The chapter is called ‘La fuerza y la paz’ which means ‘strength and peace.’

These students have passion toward the Spanish language and spend their own time tutoring people and exploring the culture.

The current president of Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is Maireli Figueroa, the vice president is Lilian Shaw, and the treasurer is Hannah Meiser.

To be inducted, these students must have completed service hours and be planning to take Spanish 4 their senior year. Angela Wood is the faculty sponsor.

During the induction ceremony students will be called onto the stage and take an oath in Spanish. The oath states that the students will continue to study Spanish and be open to the cultures of the world that speak Spanish.
