Pizzazz kicking off season

Pazzazz competition season is officially starting! The school’s dance team, on this Saturday (December 10th), will compete in their two dances they have been working on for the past two months. The team consists of six dancers, who have all been practicing towards the competition this weekend. The dances are two different styles, one lyrical and one hip-hop. The team’s coach, Katie Pluhar, who is also the coach for the Jazzers dance team, lead her team to success in the 2019-2020 season, with Jazzers winning IDTA State for hip-hop. Many of the girls from the State winning team are on the Pazzazz dance team this year, so they are all crossing their fingers for another win!

Their lyrical dance is to the song “Quicksand” by Jennifer Foster, and is a slower song in the beginning with a build up and release towards the end which adds a great element to the dance. For lyrical dances, the team thrives in turns, and there are many turn sections scattered throughout the routine, giving them a leg up from the rest of the competition.

The hip-hop dance is to a IDTA hip-hop mashup including a number of songs such as Gucci Gang, and Walk it Like I Talk it by the Migos. In the dance, they do many tricks, such as front handsprings, kip-ups, and headsprings. These tricks are the team’s strong suit, and are what they thrive on. This category is what they won in two years ago, so they are hoping to pull in another win from hip-hop this Saturday. (Hopefully a win in lyrical as well!)

The Pazzazz has been working very hard this year, and the girls on the team are hoping to continue the win they had in 2020 with their new and improved dances. Hopefully they succeed in their mission this week, so go out and support the school’s dance team this weekend!
