Darrin Houck is new to CM, but he’s certainly not new to education. Houck, an Algebra 2, geometry, and practical geometry teacher, is starting his 33rd year in education. Most of his time he has spent as an administrator in the Collinsville school district, and the last four years he has spent as a principal at Holy Cross Lutheran school in Collinsville.

He graduated from Rushville High School in 1986 and Culver-Stockton College in 1990 with a bachelor of science in mathematics. He then got his masters of educational administration in 1997 from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.

“I went to college to pursue a degree in mathematics of some sort,” Houck said. “ I did not know what I wanted to with a math degree — actuarial science area or to become an engineer. I had a professor then tell me to look into teaching and from that point on, I have focused my enjoyment on math on teaching students.”.

In his free time, he likes to golf, fish, play cards, and camp in his motorhome. He says he has been “Welcomed to Civic Memorial High School with open arms. I believe the friendly people at CMHS have been outstanding.”
