Jacklyn Olney is Civic Memorial High School’s new civics and economics teacher, taking over for the classes previously taught by Joshua LeMond, who accepted a new position in Carrollton.

In high school, Olney moved around a lot, attending Calaveras High, Liberty High, and Mountain Oaks Schools in California before graduating a year early. She attended Napa Valley College before transferring to Grand Canyon University online to finish school while working and caring for her children. She graduated with a Bachelor of Art in History for Secondary Education.

Prior to her position at Civic Memorial, Olney has 8 years of education experience with students ranging from 6 weeks to 18 years. Previously, she worked as a paraprofessional at a high school in Napa, California.

She is the mother to two girls—Raelyn, who is five months old, and Evelyn, who is just over a year and a half old. Raelyn was born six weeks early and is very small, and she describes Evelyn as “sweet and sassy.” She met her husband online. He is in the Air Force and currently stationed at Scott Air Force Base. He flies for over half the year and plans missions for others. Recently, he planned over fifty missions to rescue refugees in Afghanistan. They enjoy working out together, and she says he’s the goofiest guy around.

When asked what she likes to do in her free time, Olney said, “I love to sing! I have tried out for American Idol twice and The Voice once. It was a cool experience. I also love weight lifting and working out. I have done it for about 8 years now and it is one of my favorite hobbies. Playing with my kids is what I do with most of my time! Our favorite thing to do as a family is go to the new splash pad in downtown Alton.”

Olney looks forward to a lot this school year, including meeting new coworkers and students, furthering her education skills, and participating in our community, especially at games.
