A phrase that many are sick of hearing nowadays is “Many things have changed recently,” but for a new teacher, adjusting to a new normal is just part of the program.

One of CM’s newest staff members is geometry teacher Austin Johnson. Johnson is a graduate of Teutopolis High School and participated in the basketball and baseball programs. He has spent the last four years studying at SIUE in their education program.

Last year, Johnson also coached freshman basketball at Triad High School. He is the boys’ coach JV basketball coach here at CM.

Johnson said his adjustment to life here at CM has been smooth. “So far, the transition to CM has been great. This year is a little strange for students and teachers alike, but I really feel like the students are working hard to stay up with their classes. I enjoy getting to interact with my students every day, and it has even been fun to learn to teach math virtually at times.Sometimes the greatest challenges that we are faced with can reap the greatest rewards, and I know that is true in my transition to CM during the pandemic.”
