New FACS teacher up for the challenge

Brown and his family

As most of us know, Terri Campbell, a long-time family and consumer sciences teacher at CM, retired last school year.

Who has replaced her? The answer to that question: Mr. Charlie Brown.

Let’s get to know our new foods teacher. Brown went to Roxana High School, where he was on the football team. In 1987, the football team went to the state championship. Brown is very proud of the fact that Roxana has only made it there one time, and he got to be a part of it.

Brown has taught at a few different schools, including East Alton Woodriver, Nashville, TN, and Roxana.

Why teach here in Bethalto? Brown says, “I believe in staying outside of your comfort zone.”

Brown was inspired to teach by Bill Smith, who was the health and football coach at Roxana while Brown was going to school there.

Brown loves to spend time with his wife and son, as well as writing music. One of the songs he wrote was recorded by Blake Shelton! He and his wife also teach Sunday School.

“I feel very blessed to be a part of the lives of the youth in our community,” he said.
