New CM science teacher Halstead Selby said the students are what drew him to teaching. “Each and every one is unique, bringing their own ideas and interests into school every day.”

Selby, who student taught at CM under now-retired teacher Frank Graser, is teaching Biology 1 and Environmental Science. He earned his bachelor’s degree from SIUE. He is a graduate of Edwardsville High School, but previously attended Sedona Red Rock High School in Arizona.

The supportive environment he experienced during his student teaching is why he chose to interview for the science position. “The teachers and administrators are so supportive and helpful, I feel prepared for my first year as a teacher. I think I have a lot to bring to the table as a teacher and a mentor, too.
