Interested in joining a new club? The Science Club is one of the many clubs here at Civic Memorial. They do plenty of fun experiments and activities you would not normally see at school. Currently, they have 12 members and it is open to anybody else who would like to join!

Science Club died out after Jessica Ward, science teacher, left CM a couple of years ago to take job in Mascoutah. But Michelle Rogers, who teaches physics, has brought it back.

In the last meeting, the members chose club officers: Emily Pipkin as president, Stella Smith as vice president, Elizabeth VonBergen as treasurer, and Isabella Garrett as safety manager. Grace Witsken and Mia Dougherty are vying for the position of secretary.

Other fun experiments they have done in the past include making Elephant Toothpaste and Oobleck, dying t-shirts, and using the Van Der Graaf.

Pipkin said, “I really enjoy Science Club and could not be happier to be in it. It is a great group of people who enjoy getting messy with science and experiencing things they normally could not in the classroom.”

Meetings are every other Thursday in Rogers’ classroom. According to Garrett, they are planning on fundraising for a possible field trip this year.
