Eagle Nation Community Outreach, or ENCO, is partnering with students from Bethalto University to mentor 20 fourth and fifth grade student from Meadowbrook.

CM special education teacher Rachel Leckrone leads the group. About 29 students are in ENCO.

“We go once a month to do fun activities with them, such as getting to know you activities, crafts, reading, and games. Our goal is really three-fold….We want to provide ENCO members with leadership opportunities and a chance to be a positive role model for younger students,” said Leckrone.

Leckrone said her students are gaining positive social interactions and forming meaningful friendships with same-aged peers.

“We also want to provide the 4th and 5th graders with a role model they can look up…someone who will inspire and motivate them to do well in school and be a good person,” she said.

In between monthly visits, ENCO members send positive notes and messages to our Meadowbrook buddies.

Student Nolan Brooks said, “Meadowbrook is great!” .
